Hammond Castle Museum Partners with the Cape Ann Transportation Authority to Expand Public Transportation Access to the Historic Site.
Effective July 1, a new dedicated CATA bus stop provides convenient service directly to the Museum
Gloucester, Mass., July 6, 2026. Hammond Castle Museum, in partnership with the Cape Ann Transportation Authority (CATA), is excited to announce the implementation of a dedicated stop at the Museum along the #6 Magnolia bus route, encouraging the use of public transportation to access the Museum. This collaboration provides visitors with a convenient, fare-free way to visit the Museum without relying on a personal vehicle, while enabling the Museum to meet visitor demand.
Guests arriving by public transportation or rideshare are welcome to purchase walk-in admission upon arrival. Advance reservations remain required through August 31 for visitors arriving by personal vehicle.
The CATA bus service is free for all riders, providing an easy and affordable way to visit Hammond Castle Museum without the need to drive.
"Expanding access to the museum has always been an important part of our work and our mission," said Executive Director Linda Harvey. "We are delighted to have the partnership and support of the Cape Ann Transportation Authority. The newly formalized stop offers our guests greater flexibility while helping us preserve a positive visitor experience during our busiest season."
Cape Ann Transportation Authority Administrator Felicia S. Webb said, "CATA is excited to expand upon our long-standing partnership with Hammond Castle Museum through the implementation of a formalized bus stop, making travel to and from the museum easier and more accessible for residents and visitors alike. Choosing CATA to travel to Hammond Castle Museum helps reduce traffic congestion in the surrounding neighborhood while providing a more sustainable, environmentally friendly way to visit one of Cape Ann's most iconic destinations."
For visitors traveling from outside Cape Ann, the MBTA Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail Line is offering free Friday service through the end of August. No reservations or tickets are required. Riders can board the rail at North Station, travel to Gloucester, then connect to the free CATA bus service, which departs from the downtown Gloucester area, just a short walk from Gloucester Station, and travels through Magnolia directly to Hammond Castle Museum.
Visitors are encouraged to plan their trip to the Hammond Castle Museum based on how they intend to arrive:
· Arriving by personal vehicle: Advance reservations are required through August 31 in order to access the Museum and Museum grounds.
· Arriving by public transportation or rideshare: Walk-in admission is welcome.
Guests planning to travel by public transportation are encouraged to visit the MBTA and CATA websites for schedules and route information. Hammond Castle Museum is open daily, offering guided and self-guided tours from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm, with the last entrance at 2:45 pm.
