Description
LOCAL COLORS ARTISTS’ COOPERATIVE CELEBRATING 30 YEARS!
It was not expected to last. But it did … and now members of the Local Colors Artists’ Cooperative (www.local-colors.org) are celebrating their 30th anniversary on Saturday, November 2, 2019 with a reception, refreshments and more. The event is open and free to the public from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at 121 Main Street, Gloucester, MA (978-283-3996). The members want to show their appreciation for the support that they have received over the last 30 years from the community with refreshments, live music by a new coop member, Ryan McKechnie (potter) and friends, and a special discount during the reception on all art work. The special anniversary exhibit entitled 30 Years of Local Color, will be on display from October 26 through November 15th.
According to Donna Amero, the only remaining founding member and stained-glass artist, the Cooperative began in the fall of 1989 by a group of friends who thought it might be fun and maybe even profitable to “set up shop” for the holiday season. The group started in what is now Passports Restaurant on Main Street in Gloucester and through a little luck and a lot of determination continued far beyond that first holiday season. Donna noted that “after a fire in our second location on Main Street in July of 2001, the Cape Ann Savings Bank supported the artists by renting us an empty storefront which is Local Colors today. We are thankful for their kindness, generosity and appreciation of the arts.” Local Colors estimates they have had over 200 members in the last 30 years come and go, but continues to look for new artists who want to display and sell their work as well as be part of the “cooperative” experience.
The November 2nd event is packed full with a 15% discount during the reception 6 to 8pm, refreshments, live music, new work and a Day of the Dead altar. Please join them to celebrate this very special event.
