SUMMARY:Without Just Grounds - Elaine MacGray Starrett
DESCRIPTION:Free and open to the public \n\nThe White-Ellery House (1710) has been owned by the Cape Ann Museum since 1947 and is one of a handful of?early eighteenth-century?structures in the region exhibiting much of its original interior detailing. Since 2010\, the House has served as the backdrop for a series of contemporary art installations. \n\nWithout Just Grounds\, a series of paintings by Rockport artist Elaine MacGray Starrett (1929-2021)\, will be presented at the White-Ellery House by Cape Ann Climate Coalition's Carbon Sequestration and Climate Arts' Action Groups this August. The series reflects Starrett's concern for the protection of open space and natural resources. In each painting\, human-sized wildflowers tower over a photomontage of a compromised landscape. They become the speakers for everything in nature that is displaced or denied its natural heritage. \n\nThe installation will be open to the public from 11:00 am 4:00 pm on Friday\, August 19 and Saturday\, August 20 and from 1:00 pm 4:00 pm on Sunday\, August 21.
