DESCRIPTION:Spin-Off is a new experiential learning course offered by Montserrat College of Art in collaboration with the Cape Ann Museum.  \n\nA selection of work created by students in the class\, and inspired by the Museum's collection\, will be on view at the Museum from November 20 to December 3\, 2015. Featured artists are Bri Bain\, Kale Baker\, Theresa Dennehy\, Kendall Hanselman\, LiAnn Natter\, Sebastian Sawyer and Kelly Schultz.\nThe opening reception is free and open to the public. \n\nABOUT SPIN-OFF\nSpin-Off is a new collaboration between Beverly's Montserrat College of Art and the Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester. Designed by Professor Diane Ayott\, this upper level experiential learning course introduces students to the history of Cape Ann as reflected through the Museum's collection. \nThe 15-week class focuses on the connections between the region's art\, the environment and the economy\, with learning experiences offered both in and outside of the classroom. Students tour the landscape\, which has inspired creativity and industry for hundreds of years. And they examine the art and objects on exhibit at the Museum\, all of which are inspired by Cape Ann. The culmination of the class is a ''spinning off\,'' the creation of visual responses to this immersive experience.\nIn addition to Professor Ayott\, the course is supported by Teaching Associate\, Kevin Lucey\, a recent Montserrat graduate\, Courtney Richardson\, former Director of Education at the Museum and Museum docent and long-time Montserrat associate\, Trina Smith.

LOCATION:27 Pleasant St\, Gloucester\, Ma 01930 The Museum is located in the heart of downtown Gloucester\, one block north from Main Street and one short block east of City Hall and the Sawyer Free Library. Metered parking is available in the public lot across from the Museum. Gloucester is also easily accessible by public transportation on the MBTA commuter rail\, which connects Cape Ann directly with the greater Boston area and beyond. From Boston's North Station\, take the Newburyport/Rockport line to the Gloucester stop\; the Museum is a short walk (0.4 miles) from the train station.
