SUMMARY:Joe Mulholland & Rob Flax Trio-Windhover
DESCRIPTION:Multi-instrumentalist and educator Rob Flax describes his music concisely: "I play things with strings\, I hit stuff\, and I sing." Behind this simple tag line lies a rich depth of genre-bending\, from classical and jazz violin to bluegrass fiddle\, to blues and rock influences\, and beyond. Rob performs his original music solo (with looper pedal) and with his Boom Chick Trio\, and he plays as sideman and session musician in many other projects. Rob is also the inventor of the Chessboard Drum Machine.\n\nPianist and composer Joe Mulholland is passionate about performing and teaching great popular music from the 1930's to the present: Great American Songbook\, Jazz\, R'n'B and more. He has an active free-lance career as jazz instrumentalist\, composer and vocal accompanist. His latest CD\, "Runaway Train" contains eight new compositions for jazz trio.\n\nJoe is a Professor of Harmony and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music\, and chaired the department from 2005-2015. He has a special interest in the popular music of Brazil\, and teaches a class at Berklee in the Harmony of Brazilian Song. He has lectured on harmony\, improvisation and composition internationally. He also teaches online classes in Jazz Composition and Music Foundations for BerkleeOnline.\n\nRob and Joe will be joined by a bassist to perform a high-energy show of originals and creative re-imaginings of popular songs\, with virtuoso interaction between the three players. Singing and dancing could break out. Expect to be joyfully transported!
