DESCRIPTION:Performing only on Baroque instruments or modern replicas\, the Irish Baroque Orchestra (IBO) seeks to re-create the original performance styles of the Baroque period. This performance features the IBO exploring the theme of ''Ireland's Golden Age\,'' a fascinating snapshot of the musical scene in 18th century Dublin\, when composers from all over Europe converged on the city seeking inspiration and patronage. IBO's ''Golden Age'' program includes works by Handel\, Vivaldi\, Geminiani\, Pasquali and Turlough Carolan (amongst others).  \n\nThe orchestra performs over 20 concerts a year and continues to receive widespread critical acclaim around the globe.  As the ensemble-in-residence at the National Concert Hall Dublin (as well as a recently finished residency at the Dublin Institute of Technology)\, the IBO regularly works with students on Baroque repertoire and playing techniques. Their ''Flights of Fantasy\,'' a recording of early Italian chamber music\, was released on the Avie label to international acclaim\, and listed as one of the top recordings of 2010 by the New Yorker. Their goal is to allow audiences to experience the beauty of Baroque music as it was intended to be heard.\n\nMonica Huggett- Artistic Director and violinist\nKnown internationally as one of the foremost Baroque violinists and conductors of our time\, Monica Huggett has been a tireless champion of Baroque music for the last three decades. Beyond her leadership role with IBO\, Huggett also serves as artistic director of the Portland Baroque Orchestra. She also founded Sonnerie\, one of the world's premier recording/touring Baroque ensembles. Other founding credits include co-founding the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra as well as the Montana Baroque Festival. Early in her career\, she was appointed inaugural artistic director of The Juilliard School's Historical Performance Program. LOCATION:37 Main Street\, Rockport\, MA 01966 Travelling by Car: Rockport is 45 miles from downtown Boston. Drive north on Route 128 (through two rotaries) to the traffic light in Gloucester. At the traffic light\, turn left onto Route 127. Drive 4 miles to Rockport. Continue through “Five Corners” onto Route 127A (Broadway) toward the harbor. It’s a slight vere to the right. At the stop sign at Mt. Pleasant Street (lighthouse in median)\, turn left and then bear left onto Main Street. The Shalin Liu Performance Center is on the right at 37 Main Street. Travelling by Train Rockport is accessible by commuter rail from Boston and other Northshore towns. The commuter rail originates from North Station on the Green line in Boston. The train station is ½ mile walk to the concert hall.
